Some Social Order Concepts in the Context of Sayyid Quṭb’s Fī Ẓilāl al-Qurʼān: A Critical Approach

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Reducing inequalities, promoting justice and creating strong institutions are important agenda items in today's world. In this context, this article focuses on Sayyid Quṭb's Qurʾānic exegesis, Fī ẓilāl al-Qurʼān, in relation to global issues such as promoting peace, justice, and strong institutions for peaceful and inclusive societies. It argues that Quṭb revitalized Islamic thought, making it relevant to contemporary discussions. Despite criticisms from certain Islamic circles regarding his views on Western lifestyle and authoritarian regimes, this study aims to present Quṭb's insights beyond narrow ideological frameworks. Through content analysis methods, the article examines Quṭb's perspectives on concepts like revival, democracy, and secularism, contextualizing them within both religious and secular contexts. Preliminary findings suggest that while some of Quṭb's criticisms towards contemporary concepts may be valid, certain evaluations are open to criticism and lack an analytical basis.
