Abstract: Developments in scientific research and technology, increase in the clients’ demand and requirements of better life force the producers to serve higher quality products and in turn result in higher expectations. Higher quality of products and lower cost in production require suitable material usage that depends on accurate and reliable information about material properties. To investigate information about the material, producers have to make precise, accurate and reliable tests, one of which is hardness that is a widely used material property and defined as the resistance to deformation. A hardness scale/standard comprises four main components one of which is called indenter, a hard material with defined geometrical properties with two main different material types; tungsten carbide and diamond. The Project GULFMET.M.RD-01 is mainly based on developing transfer standards to provide traceability for diamond indenter calibration systems used for calibration of Rockwell, Vickers and Knoop diamond indenters. In this paper the outlines of the Project including the work packages, design ideas of the transfer standards, objectives and traceability methodology are explained.
