Abstract: Marbled eel (Anguilla marmorata) is a fish species in Central Vietnam with high nutritional and medicinal value. The bioactive components in fish mucus have been studied and evaluated as new raw materials in developing products for humans and animals. This study aimed to determine the chemical composition and test the biological activity of dialysate from marbled eel mucus. The chemical composition analyzed: protein content (12.95%), lipid (9.14%), crude ash (6.83%), and moisture (76.29%). Marbled eel mucus was extracted in 95% methanol to study biological activity. Antioxidant activity was determined by the DPPH (2,2-Diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method, showing that the highest antioxidant activity of the extract was 97.899% with IC50 = 46.984 ± 0.004 (mg/mL). The antibacterial activity was tested, and the mucus extract was reported to have a high inhibitory ability against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. By High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) analysis, 20 compounds were expressed in the extract, and the results showed that some components had antibacterial, antioxidant, and cytotoxic activities. Marbled eel mucus can be an alternative to antibiotics in animal systems and human health.
