Abstract: Candidate in Business AdministrationE ducation has long been a cornerstone of empower- ment for women, providing the tools needed to achieve leadership, economic stability, and the power to challenge systemic inequities.Federal programs such as Pell Grants and Title IX protections have played a critical role in leveling the playing field. However, proposals like Project 25, a conservative political proposal which aims to dismantle the Department of Education, among other initiatives, threatens to undermine these gains. For women, especially Black women, the stakes could not be higher. Federal Support as a Catalyst for ProgressFederal support for education has empowered women to pursue higher education, break cycles of poverty, and secure leadership roles.Programs like Pell Grants have made college accessible to millions of low-income students. In 2019 alone, Pell Grants supported more than 7 million students, 60% of whom were women (according to The Institute for College Success & Access, which you can read at bit.ly/4fhKhWU).Similarly, Title IX protections have ensured that women have access to safe and equitable learning environments, guarding against sex-based discrimination and harassment. The ripple effects of these programs extend beyond individual success.Women with access to higher education are more likely to mentor others, drive innovation, and uplift their communities.A 2020 report from McKinsey Global Institute (which you can read at bit.ly/4ios50b) estimated that advancing women's equality could add $28 trillion to global gross domestic product (GDP) by 2025.These outcomes demonstrate that federal investments in education are not just a personal benefit but a societal imperative.
