Enhancing project performance through sustainable supply chain management: A comprehensive analysis of residential construction practices

Year: 2024
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Sustainable supply chain management (SCM) has become critical in mitigating the environmental and societal impacts of residential construction. However, there remains a gap in understanding the full effect of SCM on project management practices, especially in terms of integrating sustainability at all levels. This study aims to investigate the impact of sustainable SCM on the performance of residential construction projects. Using a cross-sectional survey of 147 professionals, the research employed regression analysis to quantify the relationship between environmental, financial, and social sustainability with project outcomes. Key findings indicate that environmental sustainability (β = 0.409, p = 0.017) and supply chain lifecycle management (β = 0.450, p = 0.024) positively influence project success, while financial sustainability showed limited statistical significance (β = 0.204, p = 0.268). The model explained 49.6 % of the variance in project performance (R² = 0.496). These results underscore the importance of integrating sustainability across all supply chain stages for enhancing efficiency, reducing emissions, and improving lifecycle management. The study's implications highlight the necessity for policy reforms and industry-wide adoption of sustainable SCM practices, offering a pathway for more environmentally and socially responsible construction management.
