Abstract: The analysis of ways and mechanisms of grammaticalization of Turkish postpositions with the consideration of the influence of the source word was carried out in this paper. Primary and originally Turkish prepositions are prone to semantic bleaching and the generalization of the semantics of the original language unit. Derived postpositions are the result of reevaluation of terms which determine body parts, spatial relations, physical activity, movement and perception. In the phonological aspect postpositions undergo assimilation to the laws of synharmonism, phonetic erosion and fusion. Attachment to the position of the main word and loss of lexical substance are observed morphosyntactically.
