The Impact of Sustainable Development Policies on the Welfare of the Poor in Developing Countries: A Case Study of Vietnam
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Sustainable development is a critical issue, especially in developing countries like Vietnam, where balancing economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social welfare presents complex challenges. This research examines the impact of Vietnam’s sustainable development policies on the welfare of the poor, with a particular focus on rural and marginalized communities. Despite significant economic growth, the benefits of sustainable development have been unevenly distributed, resulting in increased inequality, environmental degradation, and social tensions. The analysis identified three key problems: economic inequality between urban and rural areas, environmental degradation in rural regions, and insufficient community engagement in policymaking. To address these issues, several strategies are proposed, including designing more inclusive policies, strengthening environmental protection in rural areas, fostering greater social participation in decision-making processes, and providing financial and technical support to help rural communities transition to sustainable practices. The findings of this research have both social and commercial value, offering insights for policymakers and businesses to promote more equitable and sustainable development in Vietnam. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the complex relationship between economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social equity in developing countries.
