Abstract: The article dels with intertextuality as a way of artistic-language cognition. The linguistic means of expressing chronotopical, socio-cultural and language types of intertextuality are analyzed on the material of the German-language novels “Meeresstille” (“Calm Sea”) by N. Lubitsch and “Das Känguru-Manifest” (“Kangaroo Manifesto”) by M.-U. Kling. The purpose of the study is to identify the linguistic specificity of expressing intertextuality as a way of artistic-language cognition of postmodernism. The research novelty consists in the fact that a linguo-cognitive approach to the problem of author’s cognition has been defined, within the framework of which artistic-language cognition is considered. The obtained results showed that artistic-language cognition as a new type of artistic cognition is realized through the unique author's language and represents a cognitive process leading to the formation of new meanings. The identified types of intertextuality as a method of artistic-language cognition are expressed by various linguistic means, such as cinema imitation, falsification of intertext, languages’ mixing, intertextual portraits, etc.
