Domestic rabbit as a model of genomic editing

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The use of a domestic rabbit as an object of genomic editing, its advantages and limitations are considered. Examples of using a domestic rabbit to simulate human diseases and research possible methods of their correction are given. Successful attempts are presented to influence the manifestation of economically valuable traits in a domestic rabbit, such as fur color, body weight, using the method of genomic editing. The history of increasing the targeting of effects on genomic elements, the development of the CRISPR/Cas9 system for genomic editing to solve a variety of genomic editing tasks are discussed. The importance of careful control of the results of genomic editing is considered in connection with the potential for disruption of splicing, the occurrence of spontaneous recombinations, and spontaneous integration of DNA fragments, including mobile genetic elements, into the editing area.
