Abstract: Protection of structural materials from atmospheric corrosion remains a pressing issue for corrosion engineers in industry and agriculture. For this purpose, the use of various types of paint and varnish coatings is promising. The prospects for using a number of substances (sodium nitrite, cysteine, sodium benzoate, benzotriazole) as inhibitors of flash corrosion for creating aqueous primers for metal based on styrene-acrylic dispersions have been studied. It has been shown that the obtained coatings have high adhesion to St3 steel. The efficiency of anticorrosive protection of steel in the presence of inhibited primers has been studied using gravimetric and electrochemical methods. It has been shown that the best protective effect (Z) is possessed by a coating with benzotriazole (Z = 83%) in distilled water. In 0.5 M NaCl The efficiency of inhibited coatings in 0.5 M NaCl differs little from each other and is within Z = 50 – 60%. According to the results of tests in the climatic chamber, the leading position is occupied by the primer with sodium benzoate, Z = 94%. This coating also withstands the impact of the aggressive atmosphere in the salt fog chamber longer than others. The analysis of polarization curves shows that in a 0.5 M NaCl solution with a short-term exposure in the solution, benzotriazole is the most effective inhibitor. The conductivity of all the inhibited coatings under study over 6 days is lower than that of coatings without an inhibitor. Thus, benzotriazole and sodium benzoate can be selected as the most promising substances for further testing in order to manufacture a commercial product.
