Design and Process Parameters of Turbine Mixer for Mixing of Polymer Nanocomposites Solutions

Type: article
Abstract: The permissible wear of bearing seats does not exceed 0.3 mm, therefore, when restoring with polymer composites, it is required to mix no more than 100 g of material at a time. The issue of mechanical mixing of such small volumes has not been considered previously and requires research. Devices with stirrers manufactured according to GOST 20680-200 cannot be used for mixing since they have excess vessel volume (more than 0.01 m3). A method has been developed for calculating the design and operating modes of a turbine stirrer when mixing a nanocomposite solution intended for restoring bearing seats. The article presents the design parameters of three mixing devices of different sizes. The technological mode of 3D printing of device parts and a turbine stirrer is described. A Flying Bear Ghost 5 3D printer is used, and PETG plastic is the consumable. An original composition of an elastomeric nanocomposite filled with non-metallic nanoparticles has been developed. The material has unique deformation and strength properties. The specific work of destruction of this nanocomposite is 2.54 times higher than that of elastomers filled with metal nanoparticles and 1.24 times higher than that of carbon nanotubes. An experiment was conducted that confirmed the applicability of the developed calculation program to solutions of elastomeric nanocomposites filled with non-metallic nanoparticles. High convergence of the calculated values of the optimal rotation frequency of the turbine mixer during mixing with the actual ones was established (the discrepancy is no more than 6%). The efficiency of mixing the nanocomposite solution was assessed by two criteria. The first criterion was the transmission coefficient. The value was determined after manual and mechanized mixing and compared. The second criterion was the strength of the nanocomposite samples after various mixing modes. The higher the quality of mixing, the greater the strength of the samples. The study showed the unsuitability of the first criterion. This is explained by the optical properties of the filler nanoparticles, which do not absorb but reflect the light flux.
