Abstract: In passive bistatic radar (PBR), addressing the computational efficiency challenge associated with clutter suppression has gained paramount importance due to the continuous increase in the bandwidth of potential illuminators of opportunity, along with the widespread adoption of the multi-source detection framework. In this paper, a lightweight version of the extensive cancellation algorithm (ECA) is proposed for the first time, aiming to achieve clutter suppression performance comparable to ECA while reducing the computational complexity and space complexity by at least one order of magnitude. Specifically, this is achieved through innovative adjustments to the reference signal subspace matrix within the ECA framework, resulting in a redefined approach to the computation of the autocorrelation and cross-correlation matrices. This novel modification significantly simplifies the computational aspects. Furthermore, we introduce a dimension-expanding technique that is executed with remarkable efficiency to streamline clutter estimation. Overall, the proposed method seamlessly replaces the computationally intensive segments of the original ECA with fast Fourier transform (FFT) and inverse FFT operations, and eliminates the construction of the memory-intensive signal subspace. In a comparative analysis against both the ECA and its primary batch version, the central advantage of the proposed method resides in its streamlined implementation and minimal storage prerequisites, all without compromising performance. The efficacy of this approach is rigorously substantiated through an array of meticulously designed simulations and field experimental results.
