Abstract: Social media is becoming more integrated with artificial intelligence which enables different functions and tools which can have an impact on users’ mental health. In this article, I discuss how the intersection of AI, social media and mental health has both opportunities and downsides. Social media sites have been reshaped by Artificial Intelligence (AI) to alter the way that users share, and discover. Yet its role in mental health has been much disputed. In this paper, we describe how AI algorithms shape the experience on social media, what the psychological implications of these experiences are, and what we can do to mitigate negative mental health outcomes.
