Pilocytic astrocytoma with diffuse angiocentric arrangement and calcification: a case report

Study design: Case Report
Abstract: Pilocytic astrocytoma (PA) is the most common glial tumors of childhood. It can also be seen in young adults. It is typically localized in the cerebellum and is a WHO grade 1 tumor. It is rarely seen in the cerebral hemisphere and spinal cord. Calcification is unusual feature for PA. Angiocentric arrangement or pseudorosette structures are also unusual morphologic patterns observed in PA, and few cases have been reported in the literature. Prognosis is usually good. The prognosis tends to be slightly worse in supratentorial PAs. In here the differential diagnosis between PAs with diffuse angiocentric arrangement and calcification and tumors with angiocentric arrangement or perivascular pseudorosette such as ‘‘pilomyxoid astrocytoma, angiocentric glioma, papillary glioneuronal tumor, astroblastoma” is discussed.
