Abstract: In this article we discuss the interference and symbiosis of some symbols of archaic cultures taken over by Christianity, and we will try, based on available data, to reconstruct the archetypal shapes of the respective symbols, referring the research to a future comprehensive study of the problem in question. It is, first of all, about the reprezentation of one of the most universal symbol of Christianity – the Cross. This sign has a whole series of symbolic connotations which define it. These ancient elements of beliefs, passing from one form to another, borrowed and modified over the centuries, gave tise to the merging of heterogeneous phenomena. The antiquity of these concepts and beliefs, their syncretism made certain remimescences of them persist over time and combine with newer religious beliefs and forms. Many of these combinations allow recording the existence of extinct cults in their archaic form, preserved in the memory of the peasants. It is noteworthy that all these symbolic connotations represent an eloquent proof of the immutability of ancient folk beliefs that have penetrated Christian iconography and persist to this day. These messages from ancient times, preserved, immortalized and transmitted by ancestors, are subject to further study, analysis and enhancement of value.
