Novel oxidation-induced intelligent fiber for self-repairing of carbon fiber reinforced high-temperature composites
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: This paper introduces oxidation-induced intelligent fibers (OIFs), which utilize the oxidation process to enhance the crack self-repair capabilities of carbon fiber reinforced high-temperature composites across their entire temperature range above 370 ℃. The study investigates OIF preparation methods that integrate prestressing technology with shape memory material repair technology, establishes internal force calculation models for both OIF and OIF composites , and derives formulas to predict the stored prestress in the OIF and the maximum compressive stress exerted on the matrix. Key findings demonstrate that the maximum crack closing force provided by OIFs to the matrix can be increased by increasing the content and initial tensile stress of OIFs, and the OIF can be tailored to meet the crack closure requirements of the matrix composites . This research offers significant potential for the application of OIFs in future high-temperature composites.
