Effect Of Structured High Intensity Interval Training In Recreational Sprinters

Year: 2024
Type: article
Study design: Clinical Trial
Abstract: Purpose of Study: Sprinters in track and field events must run a given distance with maximal effort. The energy demand during this exercise increases so to perform well in this sport by using a specific type of training which would have minimum disadvantage is necessary. The Structured high intensity interval training (HITT) method can be used to improve physical performance in less time and allow athletes to accumulate time at high training intensities.Taken together, the aim of this study is evaluating effect of structured HIIT in recreational sprinters. Methodology:The study was conducted in Karad.38 subjects were selected according to inclusion and exclusion criteria and were randomly divided into Group A (n=19) which received HIIT and Group B (n=19) which received structured HIIT 4 weeks for 3 structured HIIT days/week.Patients were evaluated pre and post assessment using T test (TT)for agility, 30Meter sprint test(30MST) for speed and Cooper's Test (CT)for endurance were statistically analysed.Result: For group A: post-intervention T test was (11.29±0.4416)with p< 0.0001, 30M Sprint Test was (4.4105±0.2233)with p<0.0001, and Coopers test test (2186.1±328.06)which shows extremely significant. For group B: post-intervention T test was (10.311±0.4313)with p< 0.0001, 30M Sprint Test was (4.4105±0.2233)with p<0.0001, and Coopers test (2382±149.35)which shows extremely significant.Between-group comparison T test for group A (11.29±0.4416)and group B (10.311±0.4313)with a p-value of 0.0288 shows significance. The 30M Sprint Test for group A right (4.4105±0.2233)and B (4.4105±0.2233)with p-value 0.0044 shows significance, and Cooper's test for group A (2186.1±328.06)and group B (2382±149.35) with p-value 0.0019, shows significant. Conclusion: Based on the results, the study concludes that structured high intensity interval training has shown significant improvement in improving speed and endurance in recreational sprinters.
