Type: article
Abstract: ABSTRACT This analysis focuses on the situation regarding the security of the border areas of North Kivu by the Directorate General of Migration in the context of the armed conflicts prevailing there. All these areas are characterized by the presence of various armed groups. They fight each other or against the Congolese Armed Forces (FARDC) and/or regional and international forces (Ugandan, EAC, MONUSCO), either to gain control of the area and extend their hegemony over territories, towns, and villages, or to engage in the illegal exploitation of natural resources and looting of civilian property. The transnationalization of these armed groups' activities has led to looting and illegal trafficking, which is facilitated by the porous borders in the eastern part of the DRC. It is with this in mind that it is recommended that the Directorate General of Migration take into account the challenges and requirements of the new migration policy and the prospects for border surveillance and monitoring in North Kivu province.
