Abstract: Social work education in Europe has been part of the European Higher Education and Vocational Training Area for 25 years. The Bologna and Copenhagen agreements, which initially brought together 33 signatory States, now involve 49 countries, widening the circle of academic and vocational exchanges. The alignment of formal frameworks has encouraged mobility not only between countries, but also between higher education and vocational training, which social work has relied on to consolidate its disciplinary claims. At the same time, the job market has given rise to short vocational training courses: a dual system is thus in place, even within countries. While most countries have common fundamentals based on professional and theoretical training and internships, the fluidity of the framework also serves to diversify the profiles of social workers: teaching, like social support, is centered on the student as the actor in his or her own project.
