Abstract: The article examines the scale of the shadow economy in Russia, the experience of counteraction and the impact on the economy and economic security of the country. Undoubtedly, one of the main tasks of the Russian Federation is to increase attention to the shadow sector of the economy, to analyze the measures taken to counteract growth and reduce its scale. The State should approach this issue competently, take into account various factors and maintain a balance between the possible benefits and potential harm from making certain decisions.
