A Study on the Appreciation Classes of Middle School with the Teaching Theory of the Elaboration of Reigeluth
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The purpose of this study is to present an effective instructional plan for music appreciation lessons by utilizing the seven instructional strategies from Reigeluth's Elaboration Theory, tailored for student-centered constructivist education. To achieve this, the study examined Reigeluth's Elaboration Theory and developed instructional strategies for middle school music appreciation.Schubert's Piano Quintet in A major, was selected as the main piece for the lessons, which were structured into two sessions. In the first session, elaborative sequencing and the sequencing of prerequisite knowledge were applied to provide a systematic foundation. The second session incorporated summarizers, synthesizers, analogies, cognitive strategy activators, and learner control to design an engaging and comprehensive lesson plan. The results showed that this approach effectively cultivates the five core competencies outlined in the 2022 revised music curriculum: emotional competency, creativity, selfdirectedness, community competency, and communication skills.Additionally, the study proposed a method for developing personalized spiral lessons tailored to individual student needs.Through this study, it was found that Reigeluth's Elaboration Theory is particularly effective in helping students systematically understand and analyze various musical concepts. This instructional approach aligns with modern educational objectives and fosters deeper engagement with music, enabling students to appreciate its artistic and conceptual depth.
