Abstract: One of the main goals of education, particularly higher education, is to help students become engaged and productive citizens. What does it mean to be a “productive” citizen? To me, a productive citizen is gainfully employed, pays taxes, votes on a regular basis, respects and follows the law, participates in community activities, establishes and raises families, is neighborly, and treats others as they want to be treated.
