Study of Temperature Growth in Ceiling of Large-Space Compartment through Full-Scale Combustion Experiment
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: In this study, a full-scale combustion experiment was conducted to analyze the temperature growth in a large-space compartment where the entire compartment may not be exposed to flames and the combustibles do not burn completely. The full-scale combustion experiment was performed using ethanol as fuel, in a compartment with a steel frame measuring 5.0 (L) × 25 (W) × 5.0 (H) m, where twelve burners, each measuring 0.45 (L) × 0.45 (W) × 0.1 (H) m, were arranged. The experiment was conducted using two methods: simultaneous ignition of all the burners and ignition at regular intervals. The temperature changes were measured at 53 points on the ceiling. As a result of the experiment, the maximum temperature near the fire source in simultaneous ignition was 252.3 °C, while in delayed ignition, it reached 181.0 °C near the fire source. Additionally, at approximately 14.5 meters from the fire source, a sharp temperature drop followed by an increase was observed, indicating a characteristic division between the near-field region close to the fire source and the far-field region near the exit.
