Abstract: Dīwān Lughāt al-Turk was first translated into Azerbaijani Turkish in the 1930s by Khalid Said Khojayev, an Uzbek scientist working at the Azerbaijani branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences. However, this work was considered lost after Khojayev was murdered in 1937, accused of being “a counter-revolutionary, a member of a pan-Turkist organization, and a person doing intelligence work for Turkey,” before it could be published. After 86 years, the translated texts found in the archives of the Nesimi Linguistics Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan were published in three volumes by the Institute in 2024, in honor of the 950th anniversary of the work. This translation of Dīwān Lughāt al-Turk, which is the subject of this book review, has gained an important value by being unearthed and published after 86 years. At the same time, this work restores Khojayev’s reputation in the world of scholarship.
