Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The metaverse, an experience that blurs the lines between online and offline, is being touted as a pivotal industry of the future.Users own an avatar, a virtual "me" that acts on behalf of the physical "Me" in the physical world.People identify with their avatars and express their identity through customization. As technology advances, the challenge is to bring offline experiences online. Therefore, studying the effect of offline grooming behaviors when decorating avatars in virtual worlds is worthwhile.Among grooming behaviors, which is a concept that encompasses both external and internal factors, makeup behaviors are ritualistic and have strong procedural and repetitive characteristics.Everyone establishes their unique sequence of actions.User research determined that incorporating female makeup behaviors in real life into decorating an avatar representing oneself can increase immersion and self-identification.A customization sequence was derived to help users effectively express their real identity in the metaverse environment and presented as a task flow. The proposed sequence of avatar customization in this study is intended to increase the quality and satisfaction of online life and encourage the first step into a new digital environment.
