Abstract: The article focuses on Władysław Stanisław Reymont’s short story In the Opium Smoking Room (1894). Starting from his own journey to London, the writer simultaneously departs from the factual account, sketching visions that the protagonist experiences under the influence of opium. The culmination of the narrative is the protagonist’s reflection on the limitations of language, which proves incapable of conveying the hallucinatory experiences.
