Relation Between Reinforced Concrete and Exterior Architectural Appearance From the End of Russo-japanese War to Great Kanto Earthquake in Japan

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: With statistical tools and inspections into actual projects and theories, the insufficient influence of reinforced concrete on the simplification of historical styles is evident. The rare internal changes in reinforced concrete and the global divergence between horizontal and vertical visual elements merely indicate a technological shift. Certain manners of historical styles still existed in reinforced concrete, while some projects transcending the era were built in earlier structures. Moreover, the similarity between reinforced concrete and wooden frames illustrates Japan’s special trajectory, also pointing to wire mesh reinforced concrete.
