Abstract: Talking about Helder Camara as a mystic required a new effort on the part of the authors to present a contemporary public figure whose life has been systematically written, described and rewritten in recent decades in order to transform him into a model for Christianity. The effort has consisted of focusing the task on a purely scientific analysis, in order to overcome aspects that might cloud the interpretation of who the historical man Helder Pessoa Camara (1909-1999) was, beyond what his image or the image created about him might arouse.
