Abstract: This qualitative and bibliographic study aimed to analyze the hyperconsumption society, in which the human subject experiences individualism and narcissism, generating individual and collective unhappiness, in the process of aging and old age. The methodology adopted was the analysis of academic literary texts and periodicals, searched in the databases of: Google Scholar, Scielo and Periódicos CAPES, using the terms as a search strategy: aging, spirituality and happiness. The inclusion criteria were: aging and old age; society of emptiness, hyperconsumption, spirituality and happiness; and texts that addressed the same contexts but did not refer to the aging process were excluded. As a result, we can observe the circumstances of a society of emptiness, hyperconsumption, psychic illness, disenchantment and illusion, finding a place in spirituality, within the aging process, as a competence for happiness. Therefore, it is concluded that existential reframing, through spirituality, makes the connection with the “divine”, as a way of being happy in the world that surrounds you. It is intended to encourage other researchers to reflect on spirituality and happiness, in the context of aging.
