Abstract: This study focuses on the synthesis and cytotoxic evaluation of 1,2,3-triazole derivatives based on metronidazole, a widely used antiparasitic and antibacterial drug. Employing click chemistry, novel derivatives were synthesized by reacting propargylic ether derivatives of metronidazole with various aryl azide compounds. The structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed through FTIR and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. Their cytotoxic potential was assessed using the MTT assay against the A549 human cancer cell line. The results demonstrated moderate inhibitory activity, with IC50 values ranging from 9.06 µM to 12.67 µM. These findings highlight the potential of these derivatives as effective tumor cell inhibitors, suggesting further exploration for anticancer therapeutic development.
