Abstract: This study investigated the academic grit and mathematical mindset of Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Mathematics (BSEd-Math) students at a state university in Naval, Biliran, Philippines, during the academic year 2024–2025. Using a descriptive survey design, the research employed validated instruments, the Academic Grit Scale and Mathematical Mindset Scale, to assess perseverance and mindset attributes. The findings revealed that students demonstrated high levels of academic grit (M = 4.19, SD = 0.52) and very high levels of mathematical mindset (M = 4.33, SD = 0.43). No significant differences were observed in these traits based on sex, age, or year level, highlighting their consistency across demographic groups. A positive, moderate correlation (rₛ = 0.442, p < 0.001) was found between academic grit and mathematical mindset, indicating a reinforcing relationship. The results underscored the importance of resilience and growth-oriented beliefs in fostering academic success, particularly in mathematics. Challenges such as balancing academic responsibilities with personal interests were identified, revealing opportunities for further support. Based on these findings, the study recommended implementing mindset-oriented teaching practices, offering workshops on time management and stress reduction, and fostering environments that encouraged perseverance and continuous learning. These insights aimed to guide educators and policymakers in enhancing student engagement and achievement in mathematics education.
