Abstract: This article describes and reflects on the experience of creating a discipline entitled “Aquilombamento: Race, Culture and Black Sound Practices” at the Villa-Lobos Institute, UNIRIO’s music school. In the light of a varied bibliography on racial relations, an analysis is also presented regarding the experiences in the Postgraduate Program in Music at UNIRIO, a context that generates the collective discipline that also resulted in the creation of the “Coletivo Negro and Elza Soares Research Group”.
