The Impact Of Women's Unpaid Work On Their Health And Well-Being: A Theoretical Analysis

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The connection between unpaid work, health, and well-being has become a crucial area of research in understanding gender disparities in both developed and developing societies. This paper examines such relationship between women’s unpaid work and its impact on their health and well-being. Unpaid work, which includes caregiving, household chores, and other domestic duties, remains tilted toward women. Despite its vital role in the economy and society, the burden of unpaid work is often overlooked in policy and academic discussions especially in least developed countries. The traditional focus of medical research has always been on clinical and pathological factors rather than the social factors of health and wellbeing. This paper examines the multifaceted impact of how the intensity of unequal distribution of unpaid work affects women's physical as well as mental health, the challenges they face to access opportunities, and their overall well-being.
