Abstract: Servant-leadership and academic advising are closely related concepts. Both are concerned with supporting the growth and development of others through intentional influence processes. While some research has been done to explore the conceptual connections between them, little has been done to identify the specific practices of servant-advisors. This article examines the principles and practices of servant-leadership and offers insight regarding specific practices of servant-leadership that relate to academic advising. These include managing one’s motives, relationship building, compassionate communication, and positive coaching.
