Abstract: Background- The intracoronal bleaching procedure is largely used because it is efficient, simple and economic compared to the prosthetic treatment while external cervical resorption is one of its adverse effects. The aim of this study was to compare the penetration of different concentration of peroxides during non-vital bleaching. Methods-Sixty freshly extracted single rooted human mandibular premolars were collected from the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery, Pacific dental college, Udaipur. The teeth were kept in 2.5% Sodium hypochlorite to remove soft tissue covering the root surface and were stored in distilled water. Later root canal treatment was performed on all the teeth followed by gutta-percha removal, 3-mm below the CEJ. A thick layer of GIC or Biodentine base was applied in each subgroup and verified radiographically. One-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used for multiple comparisons followed by Bonferroni test. Results- Among all the groups with both Biodentine and GIC used as a barrier, maximum leakage was observed when Sodium perborate was mixed with hydrogen peroxide, followed by the groups where Sodium perborate was mixed with Carbamide peroxide and least leakage was observed when Sodium perborate was mixed with water. The hydrogen peroxide leakage obtained in groups using Biodentine as a barrier (group IV, group V and group VI) were less than that of GIC barrier groups (group I, group II and group III). Conclusion- Based on the results of this study, it can be assumed that Biodentine was better barrier material than GIC in case of non-vital tooth bleaching.
