Challenging techno-solutionism in engineering education. Ethical and pedagogical reflections for sustainability
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Techno-solutionism in engineering education presents important ethical questions and risks to sustainability. It is necessary to reframe the role of technology in engineering education by evaluating the ethical implications of technologies; thus shifting the focus from “is it technically possible to develop this technology?” to the question “should we develop this technology?”. Ethical engineering education must foster critical and open discussion on the role of technology in (un)sustainability to challenge techno-solutionism.
