Abstract: Tourism, as a rapidly expanding global industry, plays a significant role in driving economic growth, fostering cultural exchange, and promoting conservation efforts. However, it also poses substantial challenges, particularly in terms of environmental sustainability. This chapter delves into the interplay between tourism and sustainability, exploring how the TEF highlights the ecological consequences of travel. It examines the dual nature of tourism-its ability to generate positive socio-economic benefits while simultaneously contributing to environmental strain. Through case studies and analysis, the chapter sheds light on the factors influencing TEF, such as transportation modes, accommodation choices, and tourist behaviour. Furthermore, it emphasizes the importance of adopting sustainable tourism practices, including eco- friendly policies, responsible business operations, and conscious traveller decisions. By addressing the TEF within the broader context of sustainability, this chapter provides actionable insights for reducing tourism's ecological footprint and promoting a balance between economic development and environmental stewardship.
