Transspinal stimulation downregulates flexion reflex pathways during walking in healthy humans
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Transspinal stimulation over the thoracolumbar region above and below paresthesia intensities at 15, 30, and 50 Hz produces a generalized depression of the tibialis anterior flexion reflex during walking in healthy participants. This finding supports strong actions of transspinal stimulation on spinal neuronal networks engaged in walking. This finding may be helpful for recovery of walking after spinal cord injury in humans because suppression of exaggerated flexion reflexes enables smooth stance-to-swing transition and foot clearance.
