Abstract: The paper presents an unknown oldest version of the fifth stanza of the medieval song Radości wam powiadam, written down on the lower margin of a code of law owned by the National Library in Warsaw (temporary signature Przyb. 140/51). The discovered fragment of the song is a commentary to a Latin sermon which makes a reference to the Apocalypse, quoting the exemplum about the pelican. That note in Polish means that the preacher was preparing a sermon in the vernacular language. The aim of this paper is to edit that text, compare it with the other two known copies, as well as indicating and interpreting (in the functional and cultural perspective) similarities and differences which emerged when the song functioned in its oral version and was written down from memory.
