Culture as an Order (among the Plurality) of Values
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: The article presents a concept according to which the distinctiveness of a given culture is determined by the order of values arranged in it in a specific way. First of all, the article considers how to emphasize the functional and dynamic aspect of the arranging of values. For this purpose, the notion of performativity has been included with the concept. Second, the article proposes to distinguish three ways of establishing relationships between values: hierarchization, intertwining, and distancing. Third, the article distinguishes the basic axiological assumptions on which the idea of culture as the ordering of values is based. In this regard, exceptionally crucial was the question whether this concept entails a position of axiological pluralism.
