My ISA -Vision and mission
Year: 2025

Abstract: I deem it a great privilege to serve the Indian Society of Anaesthesiologists (ISA) as the President for the year 2024–25. This is indeed a great responsibility, and I seek all your support and help in making this year very impactful and purposeful. I have always felt that every single anaesthesiologist plays a vital role in the perioperative care of every surgical patient. The two most important things that are in the minds of a surgical patient are to survive the surgery and be pain-free after the surgery. Preserving lives and preventing pain are under the domain of anaesthesiologists and thus play a crucial role in the perioperative period. Therefore, it is obvious that we as a fraternity need to work towards disseminating the required knowledge, skill, and wisdom across our country and make it a level playing ground for every member of ISA. To realise this dream, ISA has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with over 20 simulation centres across the country to impart these skill sets, which would pave the way to reduce perioperative complications. We have embarked on our mission to establish the functioning of the College of ISA (CISA). The appointed Deans and Vice Deans will work on establishing several initiatives, including online courses, a registry, a faculty development program, research, guidelines, textbooks, and monographs. This endeavour will be a significant step forward for the anaesthesia fraternity in our country. We are in the process of collaborating with all the established subspecialty organisations of our country and forming a formidable, cohesive platform for learning and sharing. We envision that all the national subspecialty organisations will actively participate in the academic sessions at our Annual National Conference of ISA (ISACON 2025) at Raipur from 26th to 30th November 2025. We have desired to collaborate with several national member societies and non-government organisations from across the globe, and we have initiated dialogue with several of them. ISA is determined to liaise closely with WFSA and work in unison to achieve our common goals and aspirations. I am extremely happy that our journal, The Indian Journal of Anaesthesia (IJA), has done exceedingly well, with an impact factor of 2.9 (Clarivate Analytics, 2024). The several new initiatives of IJA, including podcast, vodcast, videographics, infographics, blog, vlog, mini flip book, snapshots, snippets, quizzes, reels, gifs, crosswords, and REAP webinars, have been very impactful and have enhanced the visibility of IJA. I am thrilled to note that the January issue of IJA is a theme issue on systematic review and meta-analysis, a unique initiative. I congratulate the entire IJA Editorial team for their good work and innovative initiatives. ISA is performing excellent activities through its 30 state and 238 city branches across India. I congratulate all the state and city branch office bearers for taking up the responsibility of serving the ISA. I look forward to working with all of you. I am very happy that the esteemed members of the National Governing Council are enthusiastic and passionate about serving ISA. I seek the help and support of every ISA member in our journey of making Anaesthesia safe for every single patient. I also seek your active participation in all ISA activities, enhancing the life memberships and Family Benevolent Fund (FBF) membership. Together, we shall strive hard to accomplish our goals and aspirations.
