Perception and use of public space in Puerto Vallarta. A comparative analysis between men and women

Year: 2024
Type: article
Study design: Observational Study
Abstract: Objectives: To analyze and compare the perception and use of public space in Puerto Vallarta between men and women. Methodology: This is a quantitative, cross-sectional, and descriptive study that included 150 participants (56% women and 44% men). Contribution: Although men and women use these spaces with similar frequency, their experiences differ significantly by gender. Women engage in a more diverse use of public spaces, often utilizing them more frequently for caregiving-related activities. Nevertheless, they face higher incidences of harassment and feel that these spaces fail to fully meet their needs. These findings emphasize the importance of incorporating a gender perspective into the study of public spaces and the formulation of urban policies.
