Abstract: This article aims to determine the place and role of Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi (2001-2006) assessment of his political activities in modern historiography. The methodological basis of the study includes the principles of historicism, objectivity, and systematicity, as well as various methods (analysis and synthesis, chronological and historical-comparative), with historiographical analysis being the leading method due to the specifics of the research. The scientific novelty of this article lies in its attempt to comprehensively analyze the state of study by modern domestic and foreign (mainly Russian) researchers regarding the place, role, and significance of Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi in the history of Japan at the beginning of the 21st century. Conclusions. It has been found that most researchers have focused on covering the Prime Minister's domestic policy in 2001-2002, with detailed descriptions of the activities of the government he led in 2005. It has been established that the Prime Minister's activities in 2003-2004 have been somewhat fragmented, with researchers presenting Koizumi's foreign policy strategy in much greater detail (relations with the USA, China, Russia, etc.). It has been determined that modern historiography lacks a holistic panorama of Koizumi's activities before his premiership, indicating the need for further study of his sociopolitical activities, including his leadership of the Liberal Democratic Party of Japan.
