The Validity and Reliability of the Competency Instrument for Outcome-based Education (obe) Practices Among Diploma in Construction Technology Lecturers at Vocational Colleges in Malaysia
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: This study aims to assess the validity and reliability of an instrument that measures the competency level of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) practices among lecturers of the Diploma in Construction Technology Program at Vocational Colleges in Malaysia. The validity of the instrument was evaluated using the Content Validity Index (CVI), involving the S-CVI/Ave score to ensure the appropriateness of items before the actual study was conducted. A total of seven expert panelists evaluated the instrument, and their assessments were used to calculate the index. A total of 36 respondents participated in the pilot study to assess the reliability of the instrument through internal consistency measurement, specifically by determining the Cronbach's Alpha value. The findings of the study indicate that the instrument has high validity, with an S-CVI/Ave score of 0.95. Additionally, the reliability analysis shows strong internal consistency with a Cronbach's Alpha value of α=0.992, indicating that the instrument is a reliable tool for assessing OBE competency among lecturers. This study contributes to the field of vocational education by providing a valid and reliable instrument for evaluating and improving the quality of OBE practices, thus supporting continuous improvement and ensuring the effectiveness of educational outcomes.
