Critical Indigenous Pedagogy of Place: A Pinay Scholar Warrior’s Tool for Coalition Building and Solidarity
Year: 2025
Type: article
Abstract: Being a part of the CSWE’s Minority Fellowship Program was a space to ground my scholarly work as a Pinay (Filipina) scholar warrior and guardian of kapu aloha (sacred love in Hawaiian)/mahalaya/wayawaya ken ayat (love and freedom in Tagalog and Ilocano). In this article, I share my stance of serving the people and community through the use of Critical Indigenous Pedagogy of Place (CIPP), its process of refining the values of love and freedom, and how it is a source of healing and transformation through coalition building and solidarity work. Utilizing a critical autoethnography approach, I provide insights of my work, roles, and responsibilities. I end with implications to social work education and interdisciplinary work.
