The genetic impact of pomegranate extract and chitosan nanoparticles on the swarming motility of Proteus mirabilis

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: Aims: After Escherichia coli and Klebsiella pneumoniae, Proteus mirabilis is the third most common cause of urinary tract infections. This study aims to investigate the genetic influence of two genes (flaA and wosA) and quantify them using the RT-qPCR technique on the phenomenon of swarming motility in P. mirabilis.Methodology and results: The swarmer cells were treated with two natural inhibitors, a hot aqueous extract of pomegranate peels and chitosan nanoparticles.flaA and wosA were genetically investigated in different culture media and treated with natural inhibitors using the RT-qPCR technology.Normal swarm cells had considerably more flaA and wosA genes than vegetative cells.Their amounts decreased when the agar dropped to 0.75% and when the NaCl was 1%.The impact of chitosan nanoparticles outweighed that of pomegranate peel hot aqueous extract. Conclusion, significance and impact of study: The appropriate medium for producing typical swarm cells of agar is 1.5%.The natural inhibitors had a substantial and effective on the P. mirabilis infection. Its inhibition prevents bacteria from migrating on the surface of the catheter, so inhibition catheter-associated urinary tract infection (CAUTIS).
