Inclusive and participatory management of urban parks in Puerto Vallarta: perspectives and challenges in a tourist context
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: This article examines the inclusive and participatory management of urban parks in Puerto Vallarta, a rapidly growing city with a strong tourism orientation. Using a mixed-methods approach, it analyzes inequalities in access to public spaces, the lack of citizen participation, and the impact of tourism on sustainability. A bibliometric analysis and cartographic review identified the state of the art, case studies, and the distribution of parks within the city. Successful participatory management models from Mexico City and Medellín are highlighted, emphasizing the importance of involving the local community in decision-making. The findings propose a balanced management approach that integrates the needs of residents and tourists, ensuring equity and sustainability in the use of urban parks.
