Anxiety in Platonic Love

Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: This research addresses an important phenomenon in platonic poetry, namely the phenomenon of anxiety. It examines the key causes of anxiety in their poetry, as these poets lived lives filled with worries and sorrows, which had a clear impact on their works. The study explores the reasons behind the emergence of platonic poetry and the suffering it brought to the lives of platonic poets, forming the motivations for their anxiety. Particular attention is given to the critical cause of anxiety: the conflict between the self (the poet) and society, with its rigid systems of customs and traditions that clashed with the poet’s desires and caused significant suffering, resulting in a state of anxiety. This conflict led to a kind of anxiety that left evident traces in both the poetry and the lives of these poets. The research provides a concise study of the most significant drivers of anxiety by analyzing poetic texts to uncover moments of anxiety within them. It focuses on the psychological state of the platonic poets, who endured anxiety, pain, sorrow, separation, and the difficulty of uniting lovers due to overwhelming social constraints that imposed separation upon them. Key words: anxiety, platonic poetry, Umayyad era, conflict, self and society.
