Abstract: In the current socio-political situation, a new educational context has emerged, in which the local perspective may become particularly useful in teaching Polish to Ukrainians who find themselves as refugees on the territory of the Polish state. The article attempts to indicate the elements that make up the cultural component, which is important in transmitting values that can serve to shape intercultural competence by referring to the common past of both nations, who once inhabited the areas east of the Bug River together.
