Improper Words, Impossible Objects. The Unreal in Adentro tampoco hay luz by Leila Sucari
Year: 2024
Type: article
Abstract: In recent Latin American literature, there is an emergence of techniques aimed at blurring boundaries and fostering a state of unknowing, which seek to suspend the normalizing power of symbols and reclaim the small abjections we discard in order to navigate life. These techniques, depending on their procedures and motivations, can be categorized into three broad areas of unknowing: myth, dream, and childhood. This article focuses on the characteristics and compositional forms of childhood through an analysis of Leila Sucari’s novel Adentro tampoco hay luz (2017). The literary devices and narrative strategies in this text interweave various processes of exclusion and subjection, while simultaneously introducing figures of resistance that disrupt a supposedly absolute order, giving rise to impossible objects, singular acts of creation, and new forms of agency.
